What is the Best Grassroots Definition?
When an organization or community is looking to make a change from the ground up, they will start at the grassroots. In simpler terms, grassroots is the place where things begin and grow.
OhioCAN has done exactly what a Grassroots organization should do. Even during 2 years of Covid shut down, we prevailed. We have brought our passion into the communities where we reside and have seen change. A lot of change.
But more importantly, we are stronger today than ever, as many Grassroots organizations we collaborated with in the past have fallen by the way-side. We still stand 8 years later as a non-profit. Eleven as a Grassroots organization.
We have given back $400,000.00 to our communities. To Families, to Recovery, to Active Users and to those whose lives have been impacted by substance use.
We have asked and our communities have responded. Through their belief in OhioCAN, they have given, and we gave back with love, understanding and a willingness.
But now we have to ask, "Where have all the people gone?" "Have we become complacent?" Have we finally accepted it IS our child and it is what it is?
"Billions Not Millions!!"
Pharmacy operators CVS, Walmart and Walgreens must pay a cpombined $650.6 million to two Ohio counties to address the damage done by the opiod epidemic.

Fed Up!
Coalition is organized to send a simple unified message to the Federal Government, demanding action to end this major public health crisis. The Coalition provides a platform to amplify our messages into a single, unified effort to hold the Federal Government Accountable in ending America's opioid addidction epidemic.

OneOhio Mission "To partner with local organizations across Ohio to end the opioid epidemic and prevent its recurrence.

- 30% for community recovery
- 55% for creation of statewide foundation

OneOhio
"The OneOhio Recovery Foundation is a private, non-profit foundation created at the direction of Ohio's state and local leaders to distribute 55 percent of the funds our state will receive from the pharmaceutical industry as a consequence of its role in the national opioid epidemic. The Foundation will work with local interests to support their opioid mususe treatment, recovery and prevention efforts and invest funds to support these effors for Ohioanas into the future.
"This isn't an antidote for this devastating crisis that killed so many, but the financial resources will provide for significant recovery in Ohio. The funds are necessary for the healing process that our communities desperately need, and the guardrails these companies are now required to implement will help make sure that these companies will provaide a brake in the system, so that those indidiuals who need medication can receive it, without flooding our comminites." - Ohio AG Dave Yost
The power of grassroots activism lies simply in the will and passion of the people who represent it
And so I ask. Where are the families? The ones who have paid this price, whose loss is NOT represented in the plan and mission statement of OneOhio. Where are the Kinship families? The ones currently paying as a result of WalMart, Cardinal Health, CVS, WalGreens. And finally, why were the State Attorny Generals, Governors, CVS, Anthem Blue Cross and Pharmacies the first in line requesting their fair share in the Purdue settlement. And why were they compensated?
Say Their Name. OhioCAN will never forget
