"As an OhioCAN member, Regional Coordinator and Board member, I feel it is important to share my extensive personal and professional knowledge regarding the disease of addiction.
On a personal level, my beautiful boy, Bradley, is a driving force behind my urgency to Change Addiction Now. He gained his angel wings on October21, 2016. I will be forever grateful for the knowledge and compassion that I received from OhioCAN.
As a professional, I feel it is my duty to help reduce the stigma and shame associated with addiction, educate regarding the disease, and embrace all of those who are affected." Dawn B.
Where in Bellevue 4 Counties Converge
As of 2020, we are now serving 4 counties, Sandusky, Seneca, Erie and Huron!
We are excited for the opportunity to bring together those who are determined to help those indivuals and families affected by substance use.
Peer to Peer OhioCAN Recovery and Support Group is a group comprised of individuals and/or loved ones of individuals in recovery. We come together to support each one's own pathway to recovery and the entire family afflicted by the disease. We believe in being open and honest when sharing our experiences with hopes of helping another person, as we have all paid a high price to get where we are. Our single voice is to spread love hope and understanding.
Steps of Change
4 Counties hosts the Steps of Change events, which include a variety of activities including walks, runs, ceremonies, health fairs, and resource tables. Each OhioCAN county's event is different. Most groups will stage “Walk a Mile in my Shoes,” in which family members display a pair of shoes of those who continue to struggle or who have passed from the disease of addiction.
The public is invited to this free event and children are encouraged to come!!
Steps of Change is our effort to use the power of families and those impacted by substance use to:• Break the silence, the stigma and the shame• Embrace evidence-based information and abandon outdated beliefs • Show families and loved ones impacted by substance use that they are no longer alone
Overdose Awareness Day
International Overdose Awareness Day is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind. "Time to Remember. Time to Act."
Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is held Aug. 31 each year to remember those gone too soon from overdose deaths. Please join us as we remember.
OhioCAN 4 Counties Peer Recovery support services are delivered by individuals in recovery and families, who have common life experiences with the people they are serving. People with mental and/or substance use disorders have a unique capacity to help each other based on a shared affiliation and a deep understanding of this experience. In self-help and mutual support, people offer this support, strength, and hope to their peers, which allows for personal growth, wellness promotion, and recovery. We honor all paths to recovery.
OhioCAN peer support groups are developed based on our mission; Embrace, Educate and Empower those whose lives have been impacted by substance use. Our vision; Bringing your voice to addiction and recovery. OhioCAN utilizes evidence-based practices when supporting families and those in recovery. The most important element in starting a new meeting is the desire to make it happen.
